Qiagen and ICMP announce missing persons identification partnership

Qiagen has announced an innovative technology partnership with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).

The project will aim to enhance ICMP's ability to identify missing persons using next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques, with the organisations working together at the ICMP laboratory in The Hague to develop and validate a complete NGS solution.

This will incorporate Qiagen's Sample to Insight GeneReader NGS System and other workflow solutions, as well as innovative forensic panels designed for identification of missing persons using single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).

It is hoped that this will make it possible to produce new panels that can detect smaller genetic variations in SNPs, making identification possible with minuscule amounts of biological material, as well as with DNA that has degraded through age or decomposition.

This will be the world's first NGS workflow to be used by ICMP in its mission of locating and identifying missing persons around the world.
