Siemens Healthineers and IBM Watson Health ally on population health management

Siemens Healthineers has announced a new global strategic alliance in the field of population health management (PHM) with IBM Watson Health.

The partners are hoping to help hospitals, health systems, integrated delivery networks and other providers deliver value-based care to patients with complex chronic conditions, such as heart disease and cancer, which can be expensive to treat.

This will help healthcare professionals navigate a changing healthcare landscape characterised by a growing volume of health data, an ageing global population, the proliferation of chronic diseases and changes in healthcare payment models.

IBM and Siemens will work together to jointly develop and deploy new PHM offerings leveraging each company's expertise and assets, including recent additions to the Watson Health portfolio from the acquisitions of Phytel and Explorys.

Specifically, it will take advantage of Siemens' expertise in developing technology-driven innovations and IBM's proven cognitive healthcare offerings.
