Agilent presents thought leadership award to cancer researcher

1st November 2016

Agilent Technologies has presented an Agilent Thought Leader Award to Dr Scott Lowe, chair of the cancer biology and genetics programme at the Sloan Kettering Institute.

Dr Lowe, who also leads the Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, has received the accolade in recognition of his influential research in the field of cancer biology.

Specifically, the company sought to highlight Dr Lowe's contributions to the identification of key genes, including those that promote or suppress cancer, and their characterisation as therapeutic targets using novel genetic screens, as well as animal models.

The award will support the expert in his continued work on the development and implementation of next-generation CRISPR-based genetic screens designed to help systematically identify and characterise novel targets for cancer therapeutics.

Agilent will assist Dr Lowe's laboratory by providing unique capabilities for the generation of CRISPR libraries, including massively parallel oligonucleotide synthesis technologies, plus other molecular biology tools and reagents.

Herman Verrelst, the award's executive sponsor and Agilent's vice-president and general manager of its genomic solutions and clinical applications divisions, said: "We are pleased to support Dr Lowe's research, as it promises to have many applications in identification and validation of cancer drug targets and in creating effective pharmaceuticals."
