Boston Scientific acquires LumenR tissue retractor system

Boston Scientific has announced the acquisition of the LumenR tissue retractor system, a new technology offering to enhance the management of gastrointestinal diseases.

Previously owned by the California-based company LumenR, the system is currently in development for use during endoscopic resection of lesions in the colon, oesophagus or stomach.

It is designed to improve endoscopic submucosal dissection and endoscopic mucosal resection procedures, which are less invasive alternatives to conventional surgery for the removal of precancerous lesions and malignant tumours in the gastrointestinal tract.

The technology enables enhanced visualisation of lesions to help create a stable working environment that supports tissue retraction and resection, enhancing visibility and control during these procedures and ultimately improving quality of life for patients.

The LumenR system will now be incorporated into Boston Scientific's endoscopy development programme, with additional development and evaluation of the system to be conducted prior to commercialisation.
