Philips launches telecare solution HomeSafe in the UK

Philips has announced the UK launch of HomeSafe, its new analytics-driven telecare solution for patients who are at risk of falling.

The system uses patient-centred devices and cutting-edge data analytics advances to reduce risk, lower costs and improve outcomes for patients, while helping caregivers to optimise resources and improve care.

It incorporates Auto-Alert technology to detect 95 percent of true falls with an advanced fall detection algorithm, combining calculations of altitude drop, velocity, orientation change and impact to recognise when a fall has occurred.

Patient status is monitored using a wearable waterproof pendant that can be worn in the bath or shower, where falls are common, automatically contacting the care team when a fall is detected.

Andy Calchadora, business development director for the UK and Ireland at Philips Home Monitoring, said: "The HomeSafe innovations we are launching in the UK market are set to reduce pressure on health and social care budgets through the reduction in avoidable hospital admissions, as well as improved patient outcomes and wellbeing."

Falls in older people cost the NHS 2.3 billion pounds annually, but a large proportion of these incidents can potentially be avoided with the use of proactive care.
