Boston Scientific launches Dakota nitinol stone retrieval device

Boston Scientific has announced the launch of its new Dakota nitinol stone retrieval device, for use in the removal of kidney stones.

The device, which is now available in the US and Europe, is designed to allow physicians to release and capture a wide range of kidney stones, ranging from large objects up to 10 mm to fragments as small as one mm.

It features OpenSure handle technology, which allows large, complex stones to be released to help reduce procedure time and potentially eliminate complications that can occur during ureteroscopy.

Additionally, the nitinol hybrid grasper basket makes it possible to capture, reposition and remove multiple stones and small fragments in the same procedure, opening and closing at full deflection to help physicians reach stones in challenging anatomic locations.

David Pierce, senior vice-president and president for urology and pelvic health at Boston Scientific, said: "The Dakota device with OpenSure handle is a great complement to our portfolio of stone retrieval devices and builds on other advancements we have made in the field."
