Takeda reports new data showing effectiveness of cancer drug Adcetris

Takeda and collaborative partner Seattle Genetics have announced new clinical trial data that demonstrates the benefits offered by their cancer therapy Adcetris.

Results from the phase III ALCANZA clinical trial showed that highly statistically significant improvements in patient outcomes were seen when Adcetris was used to treat subjects with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL).

Improvements were seen in terms of objective responses lasting at least four months, median progression-free survival and overall response rate, while a decrease in symptom burden was also observed.

Meanwhile, the drug's safety profile was shown to be generally consistent with the existing prescribing information.

Dr Dirk Huebner, executive medical director for Takeda's oncology division, said: "We look forward to working with regulatory bodies around the world to bring a potential new treatment option to patients with CTCL."

Adcetris is not currently ratified for the treatment of CTCL, but received approval from the European Commission for post-transplant Hodgkin lymphoma patients earlier this year.
