Merck adds Kapa Biosystems products to distribution agreement with Roche
Merck has announced the addition of several new products to its existing distribution alliance with fellow life science company Roche.
The company's commercial relationship with Roche will be expanded to include the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) enzyme products of Kapa Biosystems, which was acquired by Roche in 2015.
Kapa's offerings represent one of the most complementary suites of high-performance tools for PCR and qPCR available, improving tolerance to common PCR inhibitors, increased speed and specific activity, and higher fidelity.
Merck will employ its sales, marketing and ecommerce expertise to expand the availability of these products in all territories except the US, Japan and Brazil, leveraging the strength of its relationships within the scientific community.
The transition is expected to be completed by January 1st 2017, with Kapa's existing distribution channels to remain operational until then.
Udit Batra, member of the Merck executive board and chief executive officer for life science, said: "These enzymes represent a significant advantage over commercially available DNA polymerases and thus offer the potential for entirely new PCR applications."
