Dentsply Sirona adds compatibility with other ceramics to CEREC SpeedFire

Dentsply Sirona has announced that its CEREC SpeedFire sintering and firing furnace can now be used to process materials from other manufacturers for the first time.

The new CEREC software 4.4.4 update will allow the system to be used in conjunction with the IPS e.max CAD ceramic from Ivoclar Vivadent and Vita Zahnfabrik's Suprinity PC offering.

This means users can now create a high-performance lithium disilicate glass ceramic using IPS e.max CAD or a zirconium-reinforced lithium silicate glass ceramic with Suprinity PC for chairside treatments via a single harmonised workflow.

Dentsply Sirona's research and development team worked alongside counterparts from its partner companies to modify and optimise the furnace and software's approach to processing.

Roddy MacLeod, group vice-president for CAD/CAM products at Dentsply Sirona, said: "Not only can we deliver full-contour zirconia restorations in a single patient visit, but we can also offer highly esthetic glass ceramics like IPS e.max CAD and Suprinity PC."

The CEREC SpeedFire offers the world's shortest sintering cycles for zirconia and is now the only sintering furnace that can also process glass ceramics. It is typically used with Dentsply Sirona's own CEREC Zirconia and CELTRA Duo materials.
