Lilly announces programme to provide discounted insulin therapy

14th December 2016

Lilly has announced a new scheme that will provide people who are paying the highest price for its insulin treatments with discounts.

Starting from January 1st 2017, people who use Lilly insulin will be able to access discounted prices for their purchases via mobile and web platforms hosted by Blink Health. The price reductions will be provided by Lilly through a partnership with Express Scripts.

People who pay full price for most Lilly insulins may save up to 40 percent, with this discount programme marking the first time branded medicines will be discounted via the typically generics-focused Blink Health platform.

The scheme is targeted at patients in the US, where recent changes to the country's health insurance system have led to price increases for essential insulin products for certain people.

Mike Mason, vice-president for Lilly Diabetes, said: "This platform will effectively allow Lilly to lower our insulin retail prices for users of this platform, while not affecting the reimbursement system for other people living with diabetes."
