Ferring receives EU approval for fertility treatment Rekovelle

Ferring has announced that its new fertility treatment Rekovelle has been approved by the European Commission.

The human recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone (rFSH) has been approved for use in controlled ovarian stimulation to develop multiple follicles in women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies, such as an in vitro fertilisation or intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycle.

This is the first rFSH to be derived from a human cell line, as well as the first to be administered with an individualised dosing regimen.

A comprehensive clinical data package used to support the regulatory application showed that treatment with Rekovelle was able to promote improvements in ongoing pregnancy and implantation rates.

Patients receiving Rekovelle also reached the optimum oocyte yield more often than those receiving conventional rFSH treatment, with fewer clinically-relevant instances of poor and excessive ovarian response.
