Office cake culture ‘damaging workers’ teeth’
The Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons has warned that UK employees could be compromising their oral health due to the rise of so-called office cake culture.
Dean of the faculty Professor Nigel Hunt has called on workers to limit the amount of baked goods they eat while at work. This is because he believes that indulging in too many sweet treats at the office is fuelling the nation's obesity crisis, as well as an increasing number of dental cavities throughout the country.
Professor Hunt commented: "While these sweet treats might be well meaning, they are also contributing to the current obesity epidemic and poor oral health."
Dental experts are urging staff across the UK to say no to sugary treats and instead bring in healthier alternatives to share with their colleagues in order to safeguard their oral health for the future. Additionally, the faculty recommends that the consumption of sugary foods should be limited to mealtimes to further prevent the development of tooth decay.
