BD launches new Precise WTA reagent kits

18th January 2017

BD has announced the launch of its new Precise WTA kits, designed for the simple quantification of genetic information in individual cells.

Offering an easier method to identify and quantify genetic information in cells for genomics-based research, the reagents kit is designed to facilitate the process of whole transcriptome analysis (WTA).

It includes specialised reagents that can extract RNA molecules from individual cells, before tagging each molecule with a molecular index to make it possible to count each individual instance and attribute the molecule to a specific cell.

Highly accurate quantification of RNA is possible using this kit, allowing researchers to investigate the biological processes underpinning from diseases such as cancer, as well as making breakthroughs in stem cell development.

Stephen Gunstream, vice-president of genomics for BD, said: "The combination of our reagents, cell sorters and data analytics enables BD to support researchers from sample preparation to end data analysis."

Quantifying RNA molecules comprising genes is known to play an essential role in determining how healthy and diseased cells are differentiated or why certain cells have different structures.
