Boston Scientific named among top 100 global innovators

Boston Scientific has been included in a list of the top 100 global innovators compiled by analysis firm Clarivate Analytics.

Honouring the most innovative corporations and institutions in the world, as determined by analysing proprietary data, the list is compiled by assessing patent volume, patent-grant success rates, global reach and invention influence among leading companies.

It was shown that the volume of patents filed in 2015 decreased, but grant rates and research and development spending both rose, underlining a growing commitment to quality over quantity when commercialising new inventions.

During the year, Boston Scientific launched 75 new products and reinvested 11.7 percent of sales in research and development, bringing the company's total number of patents up to 16,000 globally.

Dave Knapp, vice-president for corporate research at Boston Scientific, said: "We invest over $800 million in research and development and clinical science each year, so that we can continue to develop new treatments that help patients live longer."
