Abbott launches new Proclaim DRG neurostimulation system in Europe
Abbott has announced the European launch of its new Proclaim dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurostimulation system.
Designed for the treatment of patients suffering from chronic neuropathic pain, the Bluetooth-equipped system can be controlled using iOS devices, providing a more intuitive therapy experience than current systems with traditional controllers.
Proclaim targets nerves within the DRG – a spinal structure packed with sensory nerves – to offer pain relief therapy by directly targeting the area of the body where pain occurs, meaning it can deliver better results than traditional spinal cord stimulation (SCS).
Clinical studies have shown the system can provide superior pain relief in patients with complex regional pain syndrome and other focal chronic neuropathic pain conditions compared to SCS.
Abbott is the only manufacturer to offer a neurostimulation device designed for DRG therapy and targeted relief of certain types of chronic pain.
Dr Allen Burton, medical director of neuromodulation at Abbott, said: "Abbott continues to pursue innovative solutions for chronic pain, because far too many patients with chronic intractable pain battle symptoms that are not adequately managed with current therapies."
