Cellectricon and Censo launch access programme for phenotypic screening
Cellectricon and Censo Biotechnologies are launching a joint technology access programme for a fully humanised phenotypic screening platform.
Targeting preclinical central nervous system (CNS) and chronic pain research, the service will utilise induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cells from Censo, combined with Cellectricon's unique screening technologies, IP and expertise.
It will enable high-quality phenotypic screening of medium-throughput libraries using customised human iPSC-derived diseased and healthy control models, with hits further evaluated with secondary or safety assays using cardiomyocytes and CNS neurons.
This will enable researchers to produce a highly refined short list of compounds ready for clinical testing, by offering access to human cells from virtually any disorder.
Currently, differences in target composition and neuronal processing between humans and model organisms can lead to the outcomes of animal studies failing to translate to the clinical setting – a problem this new service aims to address.
Paul Karila, Cellectricon's vice-president for discovery services, said: "Offering better clinical translation through the application of a fully humanised screening platform, this novel programme will accelerate our clients' discovery efforts in CNS and pain research."
