BD launches new Institute for Medication Management Excellence

BD has announced the launch of its new Institute of Medication Management Excellence, a research initiative aimed at enhancing the management of medication across the care continuum.

Operating as part of the company's established Center for Safety and Clinical Excellence, the institute is designed to offer a collaborative environment for customers and industry thought leaders to study new methods for enhancing patient safety.

Key areas of focus include opioid control and management, end-to-end intravenous medicine safety and guaranteeing the availability of medication as and when it is needed.

Its goal is to develop new advancements that can improve safety and cost of care by encouraging new ways of thinking, innovative methods, processes, guidelines and best practices. This will help to minimise the number of patient injuries occurring due to medication errors and the associated healthcare costs.

Ranjeet Banerjee, worldwide president of medication management solutions at BD, said: "Through this institute, we will be working with multiple stakeholders across the medication management eco-system to try to solve complex challenges such as medication errors, drug diversion and medication availability to advance overall patient outcomes."
