Celgene names new president and chief operating officer
Celgene has announced that its president and chief operating officer Dr Jacqualyn Fouse is to retire from the company on June 30th.
Dr Fouse will continue to serve in her current role until April 1st, after which she will be succeeded by Scott Smith, who is being promoted from his post of president of Celgene's global inflammation and immunology division.
Mr Smith has been with Celgene since 2008 and has been credited with the successful building and launch of the company's inflammation and immunology franchise, as well as driving the success of brands such as Otezla.
From April through to June 30th, Dr Fouse will remain with the company as a strategic advisor to the management team. She will not stand for reelection to the Celgene board of directors at its annual meeting in June.
Mark Alles, chief executive officer of Celgene, said: "Scott is a tremendous leader with extensive industry experience and his teams have consistently delivered outstanding results. Our entire organisation will benefit from Scott's business expertise, strategic leadership and focus on operational excellence."
The firm also confirmed that Terrie Curran, head of worldwide commercial markets for the inflammation and immunology, will succeed Mr Smith as head of the unit on April 1st.
