Novo Nordisk names new head of US operations

Novo Nordisk has announced the appointment of Doug Langa as its new senior vice-president and head of North American operations, and as president of Novo Nordisk Inc.

Mr Langa has been promoted to this role in response to the departure of Jakob Riis, its former executive vice-president and head of North American operations, who has resigned from the company.

Formerly the senior vice-president for market access and a key member of Novo Nordisk's US leadership team, Mr Langa has been with the company since 2011, joining the company from GlaxoSmithKline. 

He has more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry, having also previously worked for Johnson and Johnson.

Goran Ando, chairman of the board of directors of Novo Nordisk, said: "Doug's experience in the US pharmaceutical market, his leadership skills and expertise in the area of market access make him the natural successor to Jakob Riis."

Mr Riis has agreed to remain with Novo Nordisk for a transition period to help ensure a smooth handover.
