Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer report positive anticoagulant trial data

Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer have reported new study data showing the effectiveness and safety of their direct oral anticoagulant Eliquis.

A real-world data analysis was carried out using information from the US Medicare database to compare the risk of stroke or systemic embolism and rates of major bleeding among patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation treated with direct oral anticoagulants versus warfarin.

It was shown that Eliquis was associated with a significantly lower risk of stroke or systemic embolism and lower rates of major bleeding compared to warfarin, supporting the findings of previous clinical trials, including the phase III study ARISTOTLE.

Dr Christoph Koenen, development lead for Eliquis at Bristol-Myers Squibb, said: "Our real-world data programme ACROPOLIS aims to generate evidence from routine clinical practice settings by analysing patient databases around the world."
