Abbott boss named among world’s best CEOs by Barron’s
Abbott's chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) Miles White has been recognised as one of the world's top business leaders by the leading financial magazine Barron's.
Mr White was included in the publication's 30-strong list of the world's best CEOs, which it compiles on an annual basis. This represents the ninth consecutive year that the Abbott boss has been recognised in this way.
This latest commendation comes after a year in which Abbott was able to significantly bolster its growth prospects with the $25 billion (20.02 billion pounds) acquisition of medical technology company St Jude Medical.
Barron's noted that Abbott's stock value has risen 14 percent since then, while the magazine also praised Mr White for the bold decision to spin off its pharmaceuticals division as AbbVie in 2013.
It stated that the decision to split from AbbVie to focus on faster-growing markets outside the US, particularly in emerging economies, has "paid off for investors", while praising his ongoing commitment to finding new ways to create shareholder value.
