Takeda and Finch Therapeutics to develop inflammatory bowel disease therapy

Takeda has announced a new global collaboration with Finch Therapeutics, focusing on the development of an innovative treatment for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

The alliance will see the companies join forces to jointly develop FIN-524, a live biotherapeutic product in the preclinical research stage that consists of cultured bacterial strains linked to favourable clinical outcomes in studies of microbiota transplantations in IBD.

Under the terms of the agreement, Takeda pay $10 million (8.07 million pounds) to Finch for exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialise FIN-524, as well as securing the rights to follow-on products. Finch and Takeda may elect to extend this collaboration to additional, related indications on similar terms.

This collaboration will leverage the benefits of Finch's unique discovery platform, combined with Takeda's strength in drug development for gastrointestinal diseases, to advance a new class of microbial therapy.
