AstraZeneca tops out new global headquarters in Cambridge
AstraZeneca has announced the topping-out of its new global research and development centre and corporate headquarters at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
This milestone means the construction of the state-of-the-art new building's concrete frame has now been completed, with the focus of the building work now turning to the installation of the roof, external glass cladding and the internal fit-out.
AstraZeneca scientists allied with world-leading architects from Herzog and de Meuron to design the building, with its open architecture enabling new ways of working across disciplines and with external partners, while a central courtyard will be open to the public.
The site will become AstraZeneca's largest global centre for oncology research, as well as housing scientists focused on respiratory, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. It will also facilitate collaboration with other leading scientific organisations based in Cambridge.
Pascal Soriot, chief executive officer of AstraZeneca, said: "As a longstanding investor in UK science, we believe Cambridge offers a tremendously vibrant academic and life sciences ecosystem that can truly catalyse discovery and innovation."
Occupation of the site will begin in stages in 2018.
