BD to expand manufacturing facility in Nebraska
BD has announced that it will be expanding its manufacturing facility in Columbus-East, Nebraska to augment its plastic moulding capabilities.
The company will spend $60 million (46.37 million pounds) to create a plastic moulding manufacturing centre of excellence by 2021, a move that will add 69,000 sq ft of additional space to the facility.
It will become the company's flagship plastic moulding manufacturing facility, as well as one of the largest and most sophisticated plastic moulding plants in the world, supporting the bulk of BD's North American production capabilities.
BD is currently one of the largest users of plastic moulded products in the world, with more than 700 billion units manufactured each year. This investment will build on that position.
Steve Sichak, executive vice-president and chief integrated supply chain officer of BD, said: "Columbus is home to BD's largest and longest-running manufacturing facility in the world, and we are excited to bring cutting-edge technology and production to the area."
The work will take place over a four-year period, with current pre-fillable glass syringe production lines set to be maintained during this time.
