AstraZeneca’s Imfinzi shows lung cancer benefits in new study

AstraZeneca has announced phase III clinical trial data showing the benefits offered by its new lung cancer drug Imfinzi.

Data from the phase III PACIFIC trial demonstrated the strong performance of Imfinzi as a sequential treatment in patients with locally-advanced, unresectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who did not respond to platinum-based chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

A planned interim analysis conducted by an independent data monitoring committee showed that the trial had met its primary endpoint ahead of schedule by showing statistically significant and clinically meaningful progression-free survival benefits.

Stage III lung cancer patients, such as those enrolled in this trial, represent approximately one-third of NSCLC incidence and affected around 100,000 patients in the G7 countries in 2016.
