Actelion highlights progress towards planned creation of Idorsia spinoff

Actelion has announced that its efforts to create a new spinoff company called Idorsia are progressing according to plan.

The firm previously confirmed that it will be demerging its drug discovery and early clinical pipeline business as a standalone company, as part of the process that will see the remainder of the Actelion business acquired by Johnson and Johnson.

Positive clinical results have now been reported from two of the assets that will be developed by Idorsia, meaning both will be able to progress to the next stage of their development as planned.

Encouraging dose-finding results for the compound ACT-132577 means the asset will be able to commence phase III testing as a therapy for resistant hypertension, while a positive safety study with the lupus treatment cenerimod will pave the way for broader phase II development.

Dr Jean-Paul Clozel, chief executive officer of Actelion, said: "Realising our ambition to develop Idorsia into one of Europe's leading biopharmaceutical companies, with a strong scientific core, certainly won't be an easy undertaking, but we have all the ingredients for success."

Idorsia will have a diversified and balanced clinical development pipeline spanning multiple therapeutic areas, including central nervous system disorders, cardiovascular disease, immunological conditions and orphan diseases.
