Teva reports positive clinical data for chronic migraine therapy fremanezumab

2nd June 2017

Teva has announced the findings of a phase III clinical trial that demonstrates the safety and efficacy of its new migraine therapy fremanezumab.

Data from the phase III HALO study showed that patients treated with fremanezumab experienced a statistically significant reduction in the number of monthly headache days of at least moderate severity compared to placebo.

Both the monthly and quarterly dosing regimens were shown to be effective, with patients that were on monotherapy and stable doses of prophylactic medications included in the trial.

Teva's drug also offered significant improvements compared to placebo on all secondary endpoints for both dosing regimens, including response rate, onset of efficacy, efficacy as a monotherapy, and disability rates.

Dr Michael Hayden, president of global research and development and chief scientific officer at Teva, said: "We are grateful to the patients and clinical investigators who participated in this study and helped to advance our understanding of the potential of fremanezumab as a preventive treatment option for the millions of people suffering from migraine."

Based on these results, the company plans to seek US regulatory approval for the drug later this year.
