Philips and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center agree research deal

6th June 2017

Philips has announced a new research collaboration with the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

The alliance is designed to help improve the understanding of pancreatic cancer and advance precision oncology by developing new methods to resolve differences within and between tumours at a cellular level.

Using the Philips IntelliSpace Genomics platform, both organisations will work together to develop new methodologies and informatics approaches for precision diagnostics, making it possible to determine the causes of cancer on an individual basis.

Data scientists and genomic analytics experts from Philips will work with Dr Scott Lowe, chair of the cancer biology and genetics programme at the Sloan Kettering Institute, and Dr Christine Iacobuzio-Donahue, associate director for translational research at the David M Rubenstein Center for Pancreatic Research.

Henk van Houten, chief technology officer at Philips, said: "Our ultimate goal is to translate these findings into more precise diagnostics and therapeutics to battle this devastating disease."

The two organisations already have a research collaboration in the field of radiation oncology, utilising magnetic resonance imaging to aid treatment planning.
