Merck Sharp and Dohme reports positive long-term data for Simponi

Merck Sharp and Dohme has announced the findings of a real-world data analysis that demonstrates the clinical and practical benefits offered by its drug Simponi.

Results from multiple real-word setting cohorts have indicated that Simponi is associated with long-term effectiveness, improved patient-reported outcomes, better treatment persistence, higher satisfaction and reduced healthcare costs when used to treat immune-mediated rheumatic disease.

The GO-NICE study indicated that Simponi was linked to noticeable improvements in clinical effectiveness and patient-reported outcomes in biologic-naive patients with established rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis, with benefits manifesting after six months and maintained over 24 months.

A separate study, GO-PRACTICE, showed that clinical improvements led to persistence of treatment at 12 months, a finding reinforced by similar findings from the RIC SNIIR-AM trial. Additionally, the PANORAMA study showed that patients generally expressed a preference for Simponi due to its less intensive dosing regimen.

Professor Klaus Kruger, a rheumatologist at the Praxiszentrum St Bonifatius in Munich, said: "We see promising clinical results and a reassuring situation in relation to safety."
