GlaxoSmithKline selects new cancer drug target in Immunocore alliance

GlaxoSmithKline has expanded its cancer-focused drug discovery collaboration with Immunocore with the selection of a new therapeutic target.

The company has chosen a third target through the research alliance, initiated in 2013, with Immunocore to generate a novel ImmTAC molecule against the selected target for the purpose of treating multiple cancers.

The overall aim of the discovery collaboration is to develop multiple novel targets that are not addressable with antibody-based technologies. Immunocore is currently working on two other ImmTAC programmes under the agreement.

Among these, the lead programme is on track for an investigational new drug application to be submitted to US regulators later this year. The therapy has shown potential in the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer, bladder cancer, synovial sarcoma, melanoma and ovarian cancer.
