AstraZeneca’s Duaklir demonstrates benefits in new COPD study

AstraZeneca has announced new clinical trial data that demonstrates the benefits that its drug Duaklir can provide for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Results from the phase III AMPLIFY study have shown that Duaklir was associated with statistically significant improvements in lung function in patients with moderate to very severe stable COPD.

The Duaklir regimen combines aclidinium bromide and formoterol, and was shown in this study to provide better performance than either individual component used on its own. Safety and tolerability profiles, meanwhile, were consistent with current knowledge.

Data from the AMPLIFY study will be used to support the company's application for US Food and Drug Administration approval of the therapy next year.

Duaklir will be commercialised in the US by Circassia Pharmaceuticals under the terms of a strategic collaboration agreement signed in April 2017.
