Amgen reports study data showing benefits of migraine therapy Aimovig

8th September 2017

Amgen has announced the findings of a new clinical study that further underline the benefits offered by its migraine therapy Aimovig.

Data from a phase II chronic migraine study has shown that Aimovig was able to reduce the number of monthly migraine days in patients who have failed previous preventive therapies, a group with high unmet needs.

Aimovig was also tested in a group of patients with stable angina due to coronary artery disease, with the findings demonstrating that the drug was not associated with any adverse cardiovascular effects.

Dr Sean Harper, executive vice-president of research and development at Amgen, said: "Data from our robust clinical development programme continue to show that Aimovig has demonstrated efficacy in a broad range of patients, including hard-to-treat chronic migraine sufferers who have previously tried and failed other preventive therapies."

Aimovig is the first and only investigational biologic product specifically designed to prevent migraine by blocking the calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor, which has been shown to be associated with migraine activation.

More than 2,600 migraine patients have been involved in the clinical trial programme conducted for this therapy to date.
