Dentsply Sirona adds third-party scan functionality to Galileos Implant software

Dentsply Sirona has announced a new update to its Galileos Implant software to improve its compatibility with third-party intraoral scans.

The software can now be used to import third-party intraoral scan data, making it possible for users to plan implant treatments with surgical guides utilising digital impressions created using other scanning systems, or by the digitalisation of a physical model.

This reflects the growing diversity of digital technology options employed by dentists in recent years, which has resulted in increasingly individualised solutions and methodologies. 

Dentsply Sirona previously offered dental technicians the option to import and export scan and design data in open STL format with its inLab 15 software, while the new CEREC 4.5 software also allows STL scan data to be exported.

Dr Stefan Hehn, group vice-president for Dentsply Sirona Imaging Systems, said: "The new option enables our customers to merge any third-party STL with 3D X-ray data from Dentsply Sirona devices to support the implant planning process and the construction of surgical guides.”

Galileos Implant is designed to extract data from the high-quality imaging systems Galileos or Orthophos 3D, which are then merged with digital impressions and prosthetic designs created by the CEREC system.
