Merck launches new Millistak Plus HC Pro filters

Merck has announced the launch of Millistak Plus HC Pro, a new range of high-capacity, fully synthetic depth filters.

Designed for non-treated Chinese hamster ovary harvest clarification and downstream filtration applications, the new filter media provides a cleaner and more consistent depth filtration process compared with traditional options.

This is achieved by eliminating naturally derived components from the clarification process, thus enhancing productivity with lower flushing recommendations. Additionally, the synthetic media shows higher levels of host cell protein clearance compared than conventional depth filters.

Overall, the filters are able to reduce total organic carbon extractables and pre-use flush volume recommendations by 50 percent, while also eliminating beta glucans that interfere with limulus amoebocyte lysate testing for bacterial endotoxins.

Andrew Bulpin, head of the process solutions business for Merck's life science division, said: "Recent advancements in the productivity of upstream cell culture processes require higher filtration capacity than what can be offered by naturally derived filters currently available."
