Lilly announces new senior leadership appointments

Lilly has announced a number of senior leadership appointments in key finance, research and development, and manufacturing roles.

Josh Smiley has been promoted to senior vice-president and chief financial officer of the company, succeeding the retiring Derica Rice, while Myles O'Neill will become senior vice-president and president of manufacturing operations.

Meanwhile, Dr Aarti Shah has been named as the firm's new senior vice-president and chief information officer. All three appointments will take effect on January 1st 2018, and will see the appointees join Lilly's executive committee.

Additionally, Dr Dan Skovronsky has been promoted to senior vice-president for science and technology and president of Lilly Research Labs, a change that will be effective from June 1st 2018.

Lilly's chairman and chief executive officer David Ricks said: "This team will help us maintain focus as we work to bring forward new medicines in diabetes, cancer, immunology, neurodegeneration and pain, and change the path of serious disease."

These appointments coincide with the announcements that Maria Crowe, president of manufacturing operations, will retire in December 2017 after 35 years with Lilly, while Dr Jan Lundberg – the firm's current executive vice-president for science and technology and president of Lilly Research Labs – will retire at the end of May 2018.
