Gilead Sciences presents new hepatitis research data at Liver Meeting 2017

Gilead Sciences has presented a series of new hepatitis B and C therapy insights at the 2017 Liver Meeting in Washington, DC.

Data from more than 25 abstracts were presented by Gilead during the conference between October 20th and 24th, including new clinical findings on a number of established therapies.

Positive results from studies of Harvoni showed the drug's effectiveness in hepatitis C-infected patients with severe renal impairment, while Epclusa data demonstrates the benefits the therapy offers to liver transplant recipients with hepatitis C.

In addition to these findings and data on another hepatitis C drug, Vosevi, the company presented updated results from two phase III studies demonstrating improved long-term bone and renal safety in hepatitis B-infected patients one year after switching from Viread to Vemlidy.

Dr Norbert Bischofberger, executive vice-president of research and development and chief scientific officer at Gilead, said: "Gilead continues to study the effectiveness of our once-daily sofosbuvir-based single-tablet regimens in diverse chronic hepatitis C-infected patient populations to provide the opportunity for cure for all patient populations, including those most difficult to cure."
