GlaxoSmithKline reports year-on-year growth in Q3 2017
GlaxoSmithKline has announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2017, during which it delivered a sales total of 7.8 billion pounds.
This represented a year-on-year increase of four percent, or two percent at constant exchange rates. This was driven by the strong performance of its pharmaceuticals and consumer health products, with vaccine sales remaining flat.
New product sales came to 1.7 billion pounds, up by 40 percent, thanks to continued strong demand for the HIV therapy Tivicay/Triumeq, the respiratory medicines Relvar/Breo Ellipta and Nucala, and its various meningitis vaccines.
Key highlights of the quarter include the US approval of Trelegy Ellipta and the Shingrix vaccine, as well as the publication of positive phase III results for Nucala.
Emma Walmsley, chief executive officer at GlaxoSmithKline, said: "Performance in the quarter showed continued progress with sales growth and improved operating margins."
As a result of the strong results achieved during the year so far, the company remains on track to meet its financial targets for the full year.
