Merck study demonstrates benefits of Saizen Easypod therapy

30th October 2017

Merck has announced the findings of a new clinical study demonstrating the benefits of Easypod, an automated delivery device for its growth hormone product Saizen.

The first analysis of results from the global five-year ECOS study in children with growth disorders found that high adherence levels to Saizen therapy were observed when the hormone was administered via Easypod.

These high rates of adherence were maintained at around 80 percent for up to three years and were associated with positive growth outcomes among the 2,417 children receiving Saizen in the ECOS study.

Easypod is the only automated drug delivery device for growth hormone injections that can record and transmit injection data, facilitating continuous monitoring of adherence in a clinical and real-world setting.

Dr Luciano Rossetti, executive vice-president and global head of research and development at Merck's biopharmaceuticals business, said: "Poor adherence to treatment is an issue for the management of most chronic diseases. However, the early detection of suspected poor adherence is vital to achieve normal final height in patients with growth hormone disorders."
