BD commences work on expansion of US manufacturing facility
BD has broken ground on a new project to expand the capabilities of its US manufacturing facility in Columbus-East, Nebraska.
The company will spend $60 million (45.53 million pounds) on the 69,000 sq ft expansion, which will transform the site into the flagship plastic injection molding manufacturing facility for BD, as well as making it one of the largest and most sophisticated plastic moulding plants in the world.
When the project is completed in 2021, it will also create a significant number of new jobs, thus continuing the firm's longstanding commitment to supporting the Nebraska economy.
James Borzi, executive vice-president and chief supply chain officer of BD, said: "The new facility will centralise a majority of BD's North American plastic moulding production and will support multiple business units in the US and around the world."
Additionally, $7 million will be spent to retain and retrain BD workers for the different skillsets they will need to carry out plastic moulding manufacturing work, as well as to facilitate any necessary transfer to other BD manufacturing facilities.
