Siemens Healthineers completes purchase of Epocal from Abbott

Siemens Healthineers has announced the completion of its previously-agreed acquisition of the Epocal business from Abbott.

Epocal is best known for the Epoc line of blood gas testing devices, which will be integrated into the Siemens Healthineers POC Ecosystem portfolio to enable easy connection between point-of-care analysers and hospital information systems.

The acquisition completes the company's intended blood gas offering, allowing the firm to provide customised testing to cater to a wide variety of needs, including handheld testing, benchtop solutions and central lab applications.

This represents a strategically important step, as requirements for blood gas testing vary depending on the setting, meaning any one solution cannot meet all patient needs.
