Shire names new chief financial officer

21st November 2017

Shire has announced the appointment of Thomas Dittrich as its new chief financial officer (CFO), a role he will assume early next year.

Mr Dittrich is the current CFO and an executive committee member at Sulzer, a global industrial engineering and manufacturing company. He joined the firm in August 2014 and previously served as its interim chief executive between August and December 2015.

He has been credited with playing a key role in designing the company's transformation programme and driving key upgrades to finance and IT functions, as well as to its capital structure and resource allocation initiatives.

Mr Dittrich will take up the new role with Shire following a transition period from his current employer. He has been hired thanks to his extensive experience of financial leadership, which includes a stint as vice-president of financial corporate planning and chief accounting officer at fellow pharmaceutical company Amgen.

Dr Flemming Ornskov, chief executive officer of Shire, said: "His unique financial skillset and results-oriented mentality make him the right person to lead Shire's finance function."
