Medtronic commences enrolment for new spinal cord stimulation study

Medtronic has announced the commencement of a new pain study assessing a newly optimised approach to spinal cord stimulation (SCS) programming.

The first patient has been enrolled in the Vectors Post Market Clinical Study, which will follow patients with chronic intractable pain who are undergoing SCS treatment managed with the Evolve workflow to evaluate its benefits.

Evolve standardises guidance that balances high-dose and low-dose therapy settings to help physicians optimise treatment. The workflow has been developed to work with Medtronic SCS systems, including Intellis, the world's smallest implantable SCS neurostimulator.

A total of 175 patients with chronic intractable pain of the low back and legs will be enrolled at up to 25 sites across the US, with the aim of assessing SCS's long-term efficacy and impact on quality of life.

Dr Marshall Stanton, senior vice-president and president of Medtronic's pain therapies division, said: "The Vectors study will provide important evidence about how to best leverage both high-dose and low-dose stimulation with the Evolve workflow, which was designed to simplify patient management and standardize therapy for the best possible outcome."
