Ceva survey highlights common tensions in multi-cat households

Ceva Animal Health has highlighted the findings of a survey showing that many pet owners are not taking the necessary precautions to prevent tensions flaring when keeping multiple cats.

The poll of 354 cat owners showed that although more than 65 percent of owners believe their cats get on with each other, nearly all of those questioned reported common signs of tension between the animals.

These include chasing, swiping paws, hissing, keeping a distance from each other, fighting and acting aggressively, staring and sitting in front of resources to block access. In some cases, this leads to enough stress that cats act out by scratching furniture, hiding, meowing excessively or spraying.

As such, Ceva recommended making simple changes within the household, such as separating feeding areas and water bowls, creating safe areas up high, and using behaviour-modifying pheromone products such as its Feliway Friends brand.
