AstraZeneca receives two accolades for corporate sustainability

AstraZeneca has been presented with two prestigious global accolades recognising its ongoing commitment to higher environmental and sustainability standards.

The company has been included in the Global 100 Index, a listing of the most sustainable companies in the world put together by the Toronto-based media and investment advisory firm Corporate Knights.

AstraZeneca was ranked 34th globally, putting it in the top two percent of companies for sustainability performance, and ranked third among all UK businesses. This followed an assessment of important factors such as energy productivity, innovation capacity, safety performance and leadership diversity.

Meanwhile, the international non-profit organisation The Climate Group has recognised the company as one of the top achievers of 2016-17 in terms of its efforts to increase its sourcing of renewable energy.

The firm received this honour after achieving a 300 percent increase in renewable electricity use in a single year.

Katarina Ageborg, executive vice-president for sustainability and chief compliance officer at AstraZeneca, said: "We are proud to be recognised by these two leading, independent organisations for our work to broaden access to healthcare, to minimise the environmental footprint of our products and processes, and to ensure that ethics and transparency underpin everything we do."
