GSK sees 3% increase in sales in 2017

GlaxoSmithKline has confirmed that its sales went up by three per cent during 2017.

This was fuelled partly by the strong performance of its pharmaceuticals division, as turnover rose by three percent to GBP 17.3 billion.

Meanwhile, vaccines sales rose by six percent last year, hitting GBP 5.2 billion, and revenues in the Consumer Healthcare division increased by two percent to GBP 7.8 billion.

Emma Walmsley, chief executive of GSK, described the results for 2017 as "encouraging", as the company saw sales growth in each of its three global businesses, an improved group operating margin and a stronger free cash flow.

"In 2018, we could see a potential generic version of Advair in the US and our 2018 guidance reflects this," she commented.

Ms Walmsley added that GSK is anticipating healthy sales momentum from both new and recent launches and is therefore confident of another strong year of trading in 2018.
