Boehringer Ingelheim launches 2018 BVDzero Case Awards

Boehringer Ingelheim has announced the launch of its 2018 BVDzero Case Awards, with applications for entries now open.

These biannual awards invite professionals from the fields of research, diagnostics, animal science, veterinary medicine, cattle production and animal welfare to submit clinical cases of bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD), a common condition affecting cattle.

A total prize of EUR 15,000 (GBP 13,100) will be awarded for the top ten clinical cases entered, with cattle industry professionals from Europe and Brazil all eligible for participation. Submissions for the award will be open until June 30th 2018, with the ceremony taking place in Barcelona on October 23rd.

The awards are designed to encourage the search for clinical and subclinical cases of BVD in cattle herds, with the aim of increasing awareness of BVD and reducing its prevalence in the longer term.

Steve Williams, head of the global ruminants/cattle strategic business unit of Boehringer Ingelheim, said: "Bovine viral diarrhoea virus is one of the most common diseases in cattle, causing harm to the affected animals and huge economic damage to the livestock industry. We aim to challenge the status quo and bring a paradigm shift in the control of BVD."
