Wiley, a global leader in research intelligence, has unveiled the 2026 edition of its Mass Spectra of Designer Drugs database. This crucial update adds over 700 new mass spectra covering more than 400 unique compounds, thus significantly enhancing the capabilities of forensic laboratories in identifying illicit novel psychoactive substances (NPS).

In a rapidly evolving landscape of synthetic drugs, Wiley’s latest release of its database fortifies its reputation as a leading provider of trusted spectral data. Forensic and analytical laboratories worldwide depend on comprehensive and current reference data to keep up with the influx of synthetic cannabinoids, fentanyl analogs, and other emerging NPS. The 2026 update now features a total of 37,075 mass spectra, representing 27,900 unique chemical entities. Notable additions include a range of fentanyl variants, xylazine, and nitazene opioids. Pairing with Wiley’s KnowItAll software further enhances labs’ ability to swiftly classify and identify both known and novel compounds, thereby supporting public health and forensic efforts in mitigating the threats posed by new harmful substances.

This latest development underscores Wiley’s commitment to providing cutting-edge resources that empower forensic analysts with high-quality, reliable data. By expanding its Mass Spectra of Designer Drugs database, Wiley continues to support the global effort to tackle the challenges posed by the ever-changing landscape of designer drugs, reinforcing its pivotal role in advancing forensic science and public safety.
