Merck to distribute iPS cell library through Public Health England alliance
Merck has expanded its distribution alliance with Public Health England to include the European Bank of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (EBiSC).
This comprehensive iPS cell bank, which includes more than 300 quality-controlled, disease-relevant, patient-derived human iPSC lines, will be distributed worldwide by Merck as part of this agreement, with the exception of Japan.
The EBiSC project is a European public-private partnership designed to address the increasing demand for top-quality iPSC lines, data and cell services, with the ultimate aim of establishing a centralised European cell bank.
With this deal, Merck will be able to provide a complete solution for the iPSC workflow, including novel reprogramming kits, iPSC culture media, and stem cell antibodies and characterisation kits.
Udit Batra, member of the Merck executive board and chief executive officer of life science, said: "This partnership will give customers greater access to a comprehensive suite of human iPSCs for disease modelling. This is a great addition to our authenticated cell line portfolio and strengthens our offering across the iPSC workflow."
