Tesco hails success of OTC Viagra sales

24th November 2010

Tesco has noted the "strong overall demand" it has seen for Viagra since it began selling the erectile dysfunction drug earlier this year.

The company became the first supermarket chain in the country to offer the Pfizer-developed treatment from more than 300 of its pharmacy-equipped stores in September 2010.

Figures released by Tesco show that demand for the product has been highest in Bristol and the south of England, while Solihull, Lea Valley and Bursledon were also named as areas in which sales were strong.

Shona Scott, Tesco's commercial manager for pharmacy services, said: "We think that by offering easier access than ever before, we will help more men remedy this sensitive condition."

Viagra is being offered to male consumers aged between 40 and 65 by Tesco, with patients required to complete a questionnaire and blood pressure tests before they are deemed to be eligible.

Boots pharmacies have also been carrying the treatment since last year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800254253-ADNFCR
