US pharma managers are paid $25,000 (£14,384) more than their British equivalents, according to a survey.

Analysts at Cutting Edge Information said that working in a more successful and larger market for pharmaceuticals meant that American line managers, line workers and senior managers were paid more than their European counterparts, who operate in smaller markets.

Analyst David Richardson said: “It pays more to work for the number one market in the world for pharmaceuticals… you can expect to earn at least $25,000 more just by working in the United States.”

The firm added that pay ratios for pricing managers were similar in the US as in the UK. While American’s salaries make up 81 per cent with a 19 per cent bonus, European workers earn a salary of 83 per cent with 17 per cent bonus compensation.

Despite the low pay compared to American firms, British pharmaceutical executives can still expect some of the highest pay in the British economy.

According to In-Pharm.com, British pharmaceutical companies come second out of an index of average salaries among directors in the FTSE 100.
